Celebration of Masopust, 25/02

25/02 Celebration of Masopust

Join us for the two-day celebration of Masopust with food specialities from Zátiší Catering, a cimbalom band in the traditional folklore costumes, and a kid's workshop at Manifesto Anděl!

Masopust is known as the Czech version of Mardi Gras; this carnival season celebrates the end of winter and the blossoming of spring. In the literal translation of Masopust it means “giving up meat”, as the festival was traditionally the last chance to eat and drink in excess before the austerity of Lent. Filled with feasts, drinks, and costumes, welcome the spirit of spring with this special celebration. Masopust is an exciting occasion that you don’t want to miss!

???? Enjoy a live folklore performance by Cimbalom Music on Friday, who will be wearing traditional folk costumes to get into the traditional spirit of Masopust. They will play the violin, double bass, cimbalom and viola to take care of the true folklore atmosphere of this Czech-Moravian tradition, and anyone will be welcome to join in on singing or dancing during the two-hour performance.

???? You can also look forward to food specialities prepared by the chefs from Zátiší Catering, who will have a pop-up restaurant at Manifesto. Try the special menu with the pork mix meat, pork and blood sausage with cabbage and butter potatoes, and beef goulash with dumplings.

Don't miss our Beer Bar with a beer promotion of 2 + 1 free on our tapped Vinohradský pivovar 11 beer. If you fancy something stronger, stop by our neighboring Soot bar for a shot of Hruška - a typical Czech pear distilled.

???? Masquerades and colorful masks are also an integral part of the carnival. Don’t miss the kids' workshop to create your very own Masopust masks led by Anežka and the illustrator Jaruška Šupová on Saturday! There will be openings for five kids per time slot, which are an hour each from 11:00 -16:00 with an entrance fee of 150 CZK per person. Artwork materials are supplied, so just bring yourself, a smile, and little hands ready to get creative! Capacity is limited, so book your place at shop.manifestomarket.com.

Or simply enjoy the festival atmosphere, dancing, and carnival costumes for an unforgettable experience to celebrate Prague’s traditional festival of Masopust!
